Howdy? Did you check out the latest version of Blender? I am playing with render-baking + sculpting w/ multi-res meshes. works like a charm man.

......... unfortunatly i use maya now :-(.............. coz i joined a course for specialization in modelling n it was done in maya......... but trust me i love blender. i still use it to unwrap... one of the best sofware to com out of the opensource factory. hehe . wat do u say?
The worst part is i keepn downloading the latest blender versions but no time to check it out..... :-( ...... hey, i read tat the fluid system n rendering system rocks in blender now..

Hey man.

Well its totally fine to use various softwares to get things done. Yeah, Blender is one of the better OSS projects. I love the community (http://blenderartists.org and http://blendernation.com)

I haven't played with the fluid system in depth, but its got a decent feature set. The rendering pipeline is kickass. The render-layers and compostiing nodes have been capturing my time lately. Will post some tutorials and work soon.
