Even if I did not make it to the actual ceremony it was nonetheless exciting. The competition is definitely there and the artworks from all the other talented folks looked great. Now I am one of the winners and it sure does feel nice that the work you do gets respected from likeminded people who work in the same professional fields. I can only suggest any digital artist to submit work to contests and competitions. It's a great motivation.

Aravind Jayaraman:
First of all, Thank you to CGTantra and the team for the award! I'm happy that I won the digital/concept art category! There were really cool works of various people presented at the event, which was great and each category had its own very good entries. The event was a great evening seeing so many people with much passion and talent converge at one place and share their thoughts. CGTantra have been really a great platform for computer graphic students and professionals in India and good to see the talent growing! I enjoy sketching/digital painting much and seeing the category in the awards page I thought I would give it a try. I usually do some small sketches or digital paintings of random ideas in breaks while at work, so I developed a few of those little further for the competition. Other than the serious concepts, I like making characters with a story behind it, so I posted those too for the competition. I should say that everyone who would like to present their ideas and works to a wider computer graphics community should take part in the forum and the community awards event. Looking forward for the next years event and happy sketching all!

Thanks to CGTantra for giving a platform to artists to showcase their works. It was a really good experience getting nominated amidst all the awesome artists and receiving the award topped it all. All in all it was a great boost to share the stage with so many talented people.
This was the first time I got the opportunity to attend the ceremony and I hope in the future there comes many such opportunities. I met a lot of people at CGTExpo and got good exposure to the industry. The expo is a nice way for us artists to get together, network and share ideas. It is not every day that we go to a place where there's such a huge crowd of artists, industry veterans , students, companies, universities and schools. CGTExpo is such an event where all these different areas come together and I thank CGTantra for giving us such an opportunity and platform.Hope to keep taking part in such events and I also hope CGTantra keeps it going every year ! |

Arijit Gupta:
First of all, I would like to thank CGTantra for organizing this amazing event that is truly encouraging every CG artist. After working for three years in Mumbai as a character animator, I felt like I was not growing up as an artist so I decided to learn more at Animation Mentor.
At Animation Mentor I have started learning form the very basics of bouncing ball, body mechanics, pantomime to the elements that creates entertaining and memorable character acting. I want to thank my mentors at Animation Mentor : David Breaux , Dimos Vrysellas, Kevin O' Hara, Sean Ermey, Dana Boadway and Mark Oftedal. I have learnt a lot and you guys will keep me inspired through out the rest of my life.
The CCA award ceremony evening was just amazing!! We absolutely loved the band, playing rock music for us. I got the chance to meet with some of my seniors and colleagues I had worked with earlier and some of my peers from Animation Mentor at CGTExpo 2011. Huge thanks to CGTantra for making the evening so special for us!!

Harsh Mistry, Thomas Bevan, Esdras Prudente:
We were constantly looking at challenges being posted in order to gain more experience at VFX. The Plane Crash challenge appealed to us because it fit within our busy schedule (we are currently students at VanArts) and it was also like something that would be fun to do.
This was the first project that we did as a group, so that introduced new challenges that we were not used to, like consistency for the effects, and really nailing down what each one of us were going to do. Harsh worked with Maya, making the smoke, final plane renders, and some of the dust. Thomas worked with Houdini, and did the rigid body plane break-up, the small water splashes, and also some dust. Esdras worked with Nuke, cleaning the original plate, 3d tracking, sky replacement, and putting all the 3d renders together.
Some of the major challenges we faced were related to the transfer of files from Houdini to Maya and visa-versa. Creating realistic fire within the smoke also proved challenging, as the fire seemed to flicker and/or die away to quickly. On the comp side of things, cleaning the original plate was very challenging due to the free movement of the camera.
In the end, we learned a lot about working on a VFX shot in a group, and we will all definitely use this new found knowledge in future projects. Thanks for creating the challenge! |

I've been following CGTantra since almost 4 years now and it has become one of those websites for me which I need to visit at least once every day. Thanks to the regularly updated forums.
I and thousands of other animation enthusiasts like me have been aware of all the events and happenings in the industry and that includes the CGTantra Community Awards. Submitting my entry was a very smooth process and the entire team had been of great help in co-coordinating about the nomination and the invitation. Attending the ceremony was another wonderful moment where we got to meet professionals and students alike who equally share the interest in animation. |

The Sensationals Team:
Tarak Nath Biswas [Character Modeling]
Vivek DungDung [Background & Props Modeling]
Sinchan Chakraborty [Lighting]
Nilesh Goswami [Post Production & Rendering]
To enter the contest was great fun and working in a team more so as a learning experience. CGTantra is an old and renowned forum; our seniors too have been posting on the web portal. Our Teacher Mr. Chetan Khandelwal suggested we enter the ARTT War 6 Challenge and we jumped at the opportunity. We faced few hitches in terms of deadlines-10th of May.
It was a pleasant surprise and a great feeling to be announced as the Winner and we were equally excited to come to receive the CCA 2011 trophy. Our trip to Mumbai also faced some roadblocks with no tickets available by train, finally few of our team members, with the help of our institute made it by flight.
Faculty: They had a thorough experience there in Mumbai at CGTantra Community Awards and CGTExpo 2011. They had the opportunity to interact with many fraternity members and learn from Studios like Lucas Films Singapore, DreamWorks Dedicated Unit India and Technicolor. So it's my lifetime experience and the same for my team members.Thank You. |
